40+ Dead, Russian flight Crash landing with Fire on Tail Video Went Viral

Spokesperson for Russia’s Investigative Committee, said on Monday the 41 people were dead. But Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova said later that 38 lived, implying the death toll was 40.
The victims included one among the team and at least two teenagers, according to the Investigative Committee.

Airplane, which had removed from Sheremetyevo Airport for the northern city of Murmansk, turned back to get unspecified technical reasons and made a hard landing which started the fire.
Video broadcast later on Russian television showed flames bursting from the jetliner’s bottom as it lands then bounces. The plane apparently didn’t have sufficient time to jettison gas prior to the emergency landing, news reports said.

The SSJ100, also referred to as the Superjet, is a two-engine regional jet put to service in 2011 with substantial fanfare as a sign that Russia’s troubled aerospace industry was on the upswing.

The plane’s Manufacturer, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, said the plane in Sunday’s accident had obtained maintenance at the start of April. Aeroflot said the pilot had some 1,400 hours of experience flying the plane.

A replacement for outdated Soviet-era aircraft, but also has been used by airlines in different countries, such as Armenia and Mexico.

This Is the second fatal crash involving a SSJ100. Demonstration flight at Indonesia struck a hill, killing all 45 aboard.
