Nine nights, Navratri has celebrated and is the most celebrated Hindu festival devoted to Goddess Durga symbolising purity and power or shakti. Ritualistic puja and fasting combines by the Navratri and has accompanied by resplendent celebrities for nine consecutive days and nights. 2017 Navratri dates have given below.

In India, Navratri has celebrated in March/April as Chaitra Navratri and in September/October as Sharad Navratri and follows the lunar calendar.

From villages and cities, people gather to perform puja during Navratri on small shrines representing different aspects of Goddess Durga, including Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati. For nine consecutive days of Navratri, chanting of mantras and renditions of bhajans and folk songs usually accompany the puja rituals.

During the festival, people enact the Ramayana scenes:

The Navratri Mela marks the favourable occasion of Navratri in Himachal Pradesh. Men and women celebrate Durga Puja with a large devotion in West Bengal and reverence and worship Goddess Durga destroying the demon Mahishasura.

From Ramayana, Ramlila, wherein people enact scenes has performed in big grounds. With the tenth day of Ashwin, Dussehra which coincides, Navratri sees the nationwide celebration.

People arrange idols in India during Navratri in a step pattern and invoke the name of God. In Mysore involving folk music renditions and dance performances, the nine-day Navratri festival coincides with Dasara Festival, wrestling tournaments and tableau participation.

Camels and horses starting from the brightly lit Mysore Palace are a famous one, the procession of scenes along with embellished elephants. In South India, Vijayadashami also has an auspicious day for performing puja for one vehicle.

For the first three days of Navratri, Goddess Durga has worshipped followed by Goddess Laxmi for the next three days. Goddess Saraswati has prayed for the last three days.
