Fitbit drops to rank 3 in wearables world
The King of the wearable industry so far was the Fitbit. The fan following for Fitbit was a huge one and the device performed to the mark as expected. There weren’t any visible complaints on Fitbit and so everything was quite well going for Fitbit.
Apple and Xiaomi Holds Top Ranks in Wearables
It seems like the luck hit the brand Fitbit only for a while. Now, everything has taken a turn. The first quarterly sale report of the companies are enough o prove it. For this year 2017, first quarter (Q1), depending on the financial income, the units sold, Fitbit has gone two places down. The best one in the industry as per sales are Apple and Xiaomi.
The Apple and Xiaomi wearables are accounted to have sold around 3.6 million wearable devices during the quarter. At the same time, the count is as less as 3 million for Fitbit.
Fitbit first hit the electronics market in 2009, and then it gradually kept growing. In the past, at times, it has also lost its share market as less as 63 percent drop. Maybe, after the release of its first true smartwatch, Fitbit could reach better places again.
The overall sales of wearables have had a hike during this year. Maybe there are more health conscious people out there nowadays. However, compared to the previous year’s quarters., this quarter has a much better sale. The sale surged as around 18 percent in the first quarter itself.
Rather than purchasing Fitbit, this time the focus lies so much on the other smart wearables. The high-end Apple device and the average priced, but well-built Xiaomi device has held up to 15 percent of the wearables market.
Ramon Llamas, the research manager for International Data Corp’s Wearables team, said, “This allowed Xiaomi to throttle up on its inexpensive devices within the China market and for Apple to leverage its position as the leading smartwatch provider worldwide. Now that Xiaomi and Apple have supplanted Fitbit, the next question is whether they will be able to maintain their position.”
He added, “With a user base of 50 million, a strong presence within corporate wellness, and assets that keep it top of mind for digital health, Fitbit is well positioned to move into new segments and markets.”
